Kaiser Permanente scientists also noted that among the women who gained weight in the study, those with low levels of vitamin D gained about two pounds more than women with sufficient vitamin D levels (18.5 pounds, versus 16.4 pounds).
Vitamin D helps keep bones, muscles, and nervous system healthy, so many consumers are concerned about getting the proper amount of the vitamin. (Too much can be toxic and result in nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.)
Sunlight is the primary source of vitamin D, but those who are not exposed to sufficient sunlight can also get their daily dose from food or supplements.
'EMSL Analytical offers vitamin testing for companies and consumers who want to know the vitamin D levels in their food or supplements,' states Shannon Kauffman, Food Chemistry Lab Manager. 'We provide FDA-compliant vitamin testing for nutritional labels, and RDI and DV percentages can be provided when applicable.'
