New Card for Nintendo DS and DS Lite About To Become Available

Wed, 2 May 2012 09:29:19 EST

R4 cards allow Nintendo DS and DS Lite players to store other media like music on their Nintendo DS, as well as allowing them to play home brew games they have written themselves or gotten from other Nintendo DS enthusiasts.  While most players enjoy the official releases, there are always some players who have their own ideas of what might make a great game and who are willing to become programmers themselves to see their idea develop into a playable form.

Some may hope to be writing games that will get them contracts with Nintendo as developers, but for most, it is a hobby interest and is done just for the enjoyment of themselves and their friends.
The trend started with the original R4V2 cards, but they were limited to 2 gigabytes of storage and also had problems because revision changes in Nintendo firmware kept making them nonfunctional and official updates were no longer available after 2008.  While some users wrote their own updates and fixes to keep the original R4V2 adapter cards working for as long as possible, a better solution was badly needed.
The new R4 SDHC allows use of standard Micro-SDHC memory cards up to 32 gigabytes, giving homebrew game developers up to 16 times increased storage for their current game projects or other media.
According to a source at DSCardWorld, "We are continuously striving to source higher quality cards here at DSCardWorld and we are pleased to offer increased reliability for our most popular Nintendo DS and DS Lite card."
DSCardWorld is a U.S. based company that has staff on-ground at the manufacturers in Asia, to guarantee that only authentic cards make it to their U.S. stores.  They also individually test every card and ship from the U.S.
The new R4 SDHC card should be on the shelves soon and is a reliability improvement on the previous R4 SDHC v2.10T.  Nintendo enthusiasts will be able to tell the new cards by the black box rather than the gold boxes used for the older versions.
